Allenhurst

The small borough of Allenhurst covers 179.2 acres and is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Deal Lake forms the western border as the Atlantic Ocean creates the eastern edge. The neighboring towns are Deal, Loch Arbour, Interlaken, and West Allenhurst. The main roadways within the borough are Altlantic Avenue, Norwood Avenue North, and North Ocean Avenue. 

History

The borough transitioned over time from a rural area to a suburb and resort town. In 1895, the Coast Land Improvement Company bought the 120-acre Allen farm to build an exclusive resort community in order to attract upper-class seasonal residents. The town was named after Abner Allen, the longtime farm and landowner. Due to the location of the rail line, the community saw a significant growth period.

On April 26, 1897, The borough was officially incorporated as a borough April 26, 1897, taking portions of land from Ocean Township. The community sits in the center of other wealthy neighborhoods, Long Branch and Asbury Park.

Many of the homes were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Preservation committees have maintained the historical structures with strict guidelines for the renovation methods. Many of the historic homes were constructed with the architectural styles of the following:
