Belmar is a borough covering 1036.8 acres, of which 364.8 acres is water, such as Silver Lake. The eastern border lies along the Atlantic Ocean, and South Arm flows across its northern edge. It was one of the original Carnegie libraries and was constructed using a $13,000 grant from the corporation. It was designed by Edward Lippincott Tilton, who also designed Ellis Island. In 2011 a replica of Bruce Springsteen's legendary Fender guitar was placed on the grounds and stood eight feet high.
