The borough of Bogota is located in the south-central region of Bergen County in the state of New Jersey. The borough covers 512 acres and includes 5.25% water. The Hackensack River forms the western border. Some of the main roadways that travel through the town are Main Street, River Road, Palisade Avenue, and Queen Anne Road. The communities that share borders with the borough include West View, Teaneck, Hackensack, and Ridgefield Park.

History

Prior to the Dutch settlers arriving in the area in the early 1600s, the area was home to the Lenape Tribe of Native American Indians. In 1664, the area was controlled by the British. Following the Civil War, the area transitioned from a farming town into an industrial suburb.

The borough was officially incorporated on November 14 in 1894, under its first mayor Frederick W. Cane. It took land from Ridgefield Township, and in 1895 some of its land was taken for Teaneck Township. The community was named after one of the earliest settlers, the Bogert family.

The neighborhood offers its residents many amenities. The Oscar E. Olsen Park, formerly known as RLiverside Park, was established in the 1950s by Councilman Oscar E. • tennis courts
  • basketball courts

Traveling farther south along River Road is the Bogota Community Garden. The garden opened in 2018 and offer the residents planting beds for rent to grow vegetables or flowers. It has twenty raised beds available, and thanks to barrels provided by the local fire department, it is watered by rainwater.
