Early History

Jonathon Haines established a glass factory in the borough around 1800. It was located on a hill across from the Clementon Park & Splash World. They removed large amounts of dirt, gravel, and marl from the hill. Near 1811, Samuel Clement purchased the glassworks factory and named it the Gloucester Glassworks while naming the small community around Clementon village. The Borough was officially formed on February 13, 1925. Haines continued to work at the factory and ended up repurchasing the factory from Clement.

The 12.98-acre Rowands Pond Wildlife Management Area is located within the community off of Higgins Avenue. The preserved area offers excellent fishing for the residents. Many residents have caught bluegill, catfish, and bass within Rowan Lake.

The borough is home to Clementon Park & Splash World, located on Berlin Road. The theme park and water park are located on the same property. Initially, the park was home to the wooden roller coaster, Jack Rabbit. The Philadelphia Toboggan Company built the historical coaster in 1919.
