Elmora

Elmora is a neighborhood located in the city of Elizabeth and Union County, New Jersey. New York is less than 17 miles, and residents can view the New York City skyline at night from their windows in the highrise apartments.

Naming

The area's leading developers were the El Mora Land Company, and the area would be named after them. Elmora has been divided into two main sections, Elmora Hills, to the north, and Elmora, which is conveniently located near the Midtown NJ Transit Train Station.

Parks and Recreation

The Warinanco Park is located in the middle of the Elmora area and is spread across 204 acres. The park was created on reserved natural land due to resident's fear of the overdevelopment of the area. The Olmsted Brothers designed the park in 1923; sons of Central Park's designer, Frederick Law Olmsted. The name Warinanco derived from a Native American tribal leader of the Hackensack people during 1664.

The park was designed with many gardens, including the following:

  • Magnolia Plantation

Recreational areas are found throughout the park and include the following:

  • handball court
  • picnic area
  • splash park
  • volleyball court
  • basketball court
  • football stadium

Visitors can rent boats along with pedal boats to take in the lake. Throughout the park, picnic tables are located along with playgrounds for the kids to play.

Education

Elmora is home to one public school that serves from Pre-K to 12th grade, Abraham Lincoln School No. 14. The school is centrally located on Grove Street. During the 2019 -2010 school year, 936 students attended, and it ranked five out of ten. Some of the school's curriculum includes:

  • Elementary & Secondary Education
  • Special Education

Demographics

More than 47% of the area's residents were born outside of the country. Elmora residents speak many languages, including English and Portugues, but some others include:
