History

Historically the area was settled by Quakers in 1672 and named after a prominent English settler by the name of Thomas Eves. The township was officially formed in 1688 under the name of Eversham and was a bit larger than it is now.

Many locals refer to the area as Marlton, an unincorporated community within the township established in the early 19th century. The name is derived from marl, a mixture of green clay and shells used as a natural fertilizer. This area became a village in 1758 and was named in 1845. Despite the post office and the local Baptist Church renaming themselves after Marlton, the town remained.

Until the 1950s, the area was mostly farmlands, but development eliminated all of the working farms. In 1966, the area began its first full-time police services.

Historical Landmarks

In 1776, the Thomas Hollinshead House was built. The house is also known as the Eves House and the Stow House and is the first oldest buildings in the township. It is located off of West Stow Road and sits on a third of an acre property surrounded by a corporate park. The brick masonry sits on top of a stone foundation and is covered in a gable roof with wood shingles. Thomas Hollinshead was a prominent figure in the township in the late 18th century. Initially, it set upon 450 acres of land called the Vale of Evesham that Hollinshead received from his grandfather, Thomas Eves. Eves was one of the first to purchase land in the township.
