All About Golden Triangle, NJ

The personal injury lawyers in Golden Triangle, NJ, at NJ Injury Guys, have put together the following article about the area's history.

Golden Triangle

Golden Triangle is an unincorporated community located just west of Cherry Hill. The Cooper River forms the southern border separating the neighborhood from Haddon Township and Collingswood. Chapel Avenue creates the northern border between Cherry Hill Estates and Wellwood. Haddonfield Road, Route 70, and Kaighns Avenue form the triangle that the area was possibly named after.

History

The Lenape Native Americans were the first residents of the area before the European settlers arrived. Among the first was the English writer and Quaker, William Penn. Penn was born in Tower Hill, London. He was the son of an English Admiral, Sir William Penn, and Margaret Jasper. After being arrested for his participation in the Quaker meetings, his father became upset that he would not denounce his religious affiliations and forced Penn out of the family house without any future inheritance.

Penn befriended the founder of the Quakers, George Fox, and together they traveled often. Penn became more involved in the Quaker movement, even becoming the first theologian and legal defender of the religion. In 1677, Penn joined other Quakers as they migrated to America and even received a large tract of land granted by the King. Of this land, Penn founded the area of Delaware Township, now the Cherry Hill and Golden Triangle area.

Parks and Recreation

The area is home to the Cooper River flowing along the southern border, and it is a great green space full of family activities. The Cooper River Park offers residents the following amenities along its 346.55 acres, aside from its dog park:

  • William G. Rohrer Children’s Playground
  • two softball fields
  • one cross country course
  • four volleyball courts
  • sculpture garden
  • two bike paths

Two other areas of green space within the community are the Locustwood Memorial Park and the Calvary Cemetery. The Locustwood Memorial Park is home to many meticulously manicured gardens and a reflection pond but mainly serves as a multifaith cemetery. The Garden of Jacob mausoleum serves the Jewish, and the American Legion Section serves veterans.
