Greentree

The unincorporated community of Greentree is situated in the township of Cherry Hill in Camden County, New Jersey. The area is a census-designated place or CDP that takes up 2,986.24 acres and has an elevation of 89 feet. It contains 4.48 acres of water, including the North Branch Cooper River and the South Branch Pennsauken Creek. Neighboring communities include Barclay, Ellisburg, Springdale, and Ramblewood. 

History

The first settlers in the area were the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans long before the arrival of the English Quaker, William Penn. Penn arrived in the region during the late 17th century. After World War II, the area's population grew and continued to grow until the 1980s. 

Neighborhood

The neighborhood has many schools that are part of the Cherry Hill Public School District. Some that the residents can attend, include:

  • Joseph D. Sharp Elementary School - located on Old Orchard Road
  • Richard Stockton Elementary - located on Wexford Drive
  • Henry C. Beck Middle School - located on Cropwell Road
  • Camden County College - located on Marlton Pike East 
  • James F. Cooper Elementary School - located on Greentree Road

Located in the southern region of the community, is the Springhouse Farm, the last working farm within the greater Cherry Hill area. The 45-acre farmland was almost sold for the development of as many as 81 new homes. However, the township purchased the land and is currently leasing it to a family under the provisions that they continue to use it as farmland. 

Just on the opposite side of Springdale Road is the Springdale Farm Market. Some of the things found at the market include:

  • vegetables grown at the farm
  • a bakery operated by the farm owners
  • hayrides
  • a corn maze
  • a party venue

Demographics

The community was home to 11,367 townspeople in 2010, which made up 4,007 households and 3,218 families within 4,134 housing units. This was a 1.5% decrease from 2000. The breakdown of the races within the neighborhood included the following:

  • 73.52% white 
  • 6.54% African American
  • 3.04% Hispanic or Latino
  • 0.08% Native American
  • 17.34% Asian
  • 0.00% Pacific Islander
  • 0.65% other races
  • 1.87% two or more races

The income median for the town's households was $85,816 in 2000. A family averaged an income of $94,635. Men brought in a yearly salary of an average of $67,738 versus $39,896 for women. A few of the types of occupations held by the employed adults includes:
