Hockhockson

The unincorporated community of Hockhockson is located in the borough of Tinton Falls that is situated in the eastern region of Monmouth County in the state of New Jersey. The community is just north of Wiley's Corner and south of West Shrewsbury. Other neighboring communities include Phalanx, Scobeyville, and Wayside. 

History

The Lenni Lenape Native Americans initially inhabited the greater area. European settlements began in the late 1600s, with the first land purchased from the Lenape Natives in 1664. 

James Grover was one of the greater community's original founders and the owner of an ironworks that was constructed along the river. His ironworks business was an integral part of the community. Colonel Lewis Morris purchased the ironworks and built a corn mill along the opposite side of the river. 

Neighborhood

In the northern region of the neighborhood is the Due Process Stables Golf Course. This course first opened in 1995 and offered its guests an 18 hole course that has been ranked 75.4. It has 7,138 yards of golf from the tee for a par of 72. The course sits hidden away in what is known as Colts Neck. Golf architect Gene Bates designed it, and to this day, there are less than 100 members, and it is near impossible to get an invitation to become a member. 

Hockhockson Park is another highlight for the neighborhood that is located off Hockhockson Road. The wheelchair-accessible park has the following amenities for its visitors:

• a small green space
• basketball court
• baseball field
• a playground 
• a picnic area

Another small park in the area is Kiva Park, just off of Wayside Road. It has an open field with benches and a gazebo. The many trees give its visitors shade as they sit and take in the area's natural beauty. The Pine Brook Fire Company is located right behind the park.

The community has several churches for the residents to attend. Some of these include:

• St Thomas AME Zion Church
• Grace Christian Church
• Park Church

Demographics

The residents in the community are wealthy, making it among the 15% highest income neighborhoods in the United States. The working residents have occupations that can be broken down like the following:

• 52.0% executive, management, and professional roles
• 22.9% sales and service jobs
• 13.1% clerical, assistant, and tech support positions
• 12.0% manufacturing and laborer occupations

As many as 91.9% of the residents speak English, along with 3.9% that speak Spanish. The breakdown of some common ancestries found within the community include:
