Getting to Know Longport, NJ

The personal injury attorneys in Longport, NJ, at NJ Injury Guys would like to share some of the oceanfront borough's highlights.

The coastal borough of Longport is located within Atlantic County in the state of New Jersey. It is situated on the Atlantic Ocean shore of Absecon Island. The small inlet takes up 998.4 acres that include 74.49%, or 742.4 acres of water, leaving only 256 acres of land. Margate City and Ocean City are the closest communities.

The name of the community was in honor of the first landowner, James Long. In 1857, Long purchased a parcel that grew as sand accumulated. A series of storms that wrecked the borough between 1900 and 1916 washed out a section of 180 acres onto a barrier island. This section of land included the streets numbered from 10th Avenue and below.
