Malaga

The unincorporated community of Malaga is located in the Township of Franklin, situated in the southern region of Gloucester County, New Jersey. The neighboring towns are Newfield, Willow Grove, Pittsgrove, and Alliance. West Boulevard travels across the neighborhood, as does Harding Highway and Old Marshall Mill Road. The Malaga Lake Park is in the northern section and includes a manufactured 105-acre lake. The neighborhood is within ZIP Code 08328. 

History

The town was named after a town in Spain. Some of the early residents and landowners that arrived earlier than 1813 included:

• Daniel H. Miller
• Christian L. Stanger
• Joshua Richman 

Miller owned a large tract of land that included several thousand acres and upon the land was a farmhouse and a few tenements. Stanger purchased the land from Miller in 1813 and built a sawmill by the stream. The mill produced lumber used for glasswork production. The Malaga GlassWorks had a huge influence on the village's economy. Stanger owned a pioneer store that was connected to the glassworks facility. A wheelwright and blacksmith establishment was as well.
