Stoney Road

The unincorporated community of Stoney Road is located within Paterson's Second Ward. Woodland Park is the neighborhood's south, and Totowa is across the Passaic River. The neighborhood is one mile from Little Lima. The Christopher Columbus Highway travels along the southeastern edge of the town, and McBride Avenue cuts across the northern section. 

History

the area was originally home to the Algonquian-speaking Native American Acquackanonk tribe of the Lenape Nation. This Native American tribe is also referred to as the Delaware Indians. The greater area of Paterson was initially called Lenapehoking before the Dutch began to settle.

The Great Falls, located just north of the neighborhood along the Passaic River, fueled the industrial development into the area. Mills and manufacturing plants sprung up, spurring the influx of immigrants in search of work. The workers were mostly Italian immigrants from Naples. The area still holds strong to its Italian heritage, but other ethnic groups have almost outnumbered them. 

In 1885 The Levine Reservoir was built. It is one of the few open-air reservoirs in the country. Despite the opposition from the neighborhood residents to preserve the historical reservoir, the EPA has approved the plans to replace it with tanks in an attempt to avoid contamination to the town's drinking water by environmental elements.
