Marlton

The census-designated place or CDP helps to form Evesham Township located in the western region of Burlington County, New Jersey. The CDP spans 2,070.4 acres and includes 0.25% or 5.12 acres of water. These bodies of water include the South Branch Pennsauken Creek, which flows along the western border of the town. Some of the closest communities are Society Hill, Greentree, Ashland, and Barclay. 

History

The English and Welsh are credited for founding the area in 1676. At some point in the 19th century, that the community was called by its current name. The name refers to the abundance of marl clay found within the region's soil. The clay was used by the farmers and local businesses. Development began around 1830 to 1940 due to the sale of the soil. Not only was it sold directly to the locals, but it was also shipped to other communities. By 1930 the marl pits were shut down. 

Neighborhood

There are several parks within the neighborhood for the residents to enjoy outdoor activities, including:

  • Westerly Drive Playground - located on Westerly Drive
  • Marlton Neville Drive Playground - located on Neville Drive 
  • Eisenhower Park - located on North Maple Avenue 
  • Greenlane Fields - located on Locust Avenue

Off of East Stow Road is Pump It Up, an indoor children's center. The center includes inflatables for children to play on. Birthday party packages are offered along with other group event services. 

Education

The townspeople can send their children to the public schools within the Evesham Township School District. Some of these schools include:

  • J Harold Van Zant - located on Conestoga Drive
  • Frances DeMasi Middle School - located on Evesboro Medford Road
  • Cherokee High School - located on Tomlinson Mill Road

In 2010, the CDP had 10,133 residents that made up 4,126 households and 2,653 families. Within the community the population's racial breakdown as follows:

  • 4.41% Hispanic or Latino
  • 0.01% Pacific Islander
  • 0.15% Native American
  • 6.10% Asian
  • 1.60% two or more races
  • 1.30% other races

The median income per household was $52,271 in 2000. The family income averaged $61,217. Men averaged a yearly income of $46,905 versus women's average of $31,798. Many of the professions held by the working residents included the following:
