Tremley

The unincorporated community of Tremley is located within the city of Linden that is situated in Union County, New Jersey. Tremley Point is located to the town's east across the New Jersey Turnpike. West Carteret is just past the Rahway River to the south. Bayway is to the north of the community on the opposite side of Morses Creek, and Linden is to the west just past the Linden Airport off of West Edgar Road. 

History

The area was originally part of the Elizabethtown Tract that an English colonist purchased in 1664 from the Lenape Native Americans. The township of Linden was established in 1861. It borrowed land from Elizabeth, Union Township, and Rahway. The Linden borough was formed on March 30, 1882, and then became a city in 1925 by an official act of the New Jersey Legislature. As development took place, the unincorporated communities of Bayway, Grasselli, Morses Mill, Tremley, Vreeland Mills, Warners, and Wheatsheaf began to take form within the city.

Demographics

As many as 34.5% of the community's residents were born in countries outside of the United States. While the town majority speaks English, 40.6%, approximately 4.2% speak Portuguese as their first language. Other languages spoken include Spanish and Polish. The following is a breakdown of the common ancestries found within the community residents: 

• 16.6% Polish
• 11.9% Puerto Rican
• 10.9% South American
• 6.7% Brazilian
• 6.6% Italian
• 4.1% Portuguese

In addition to its neighboring communities, the community had a median income of $55,859 per household in 2010, allowing for a $2,529 margin of error. The average income for a family was $64,439, allowing for a $4,027 margin of error. Males brought in an average of $45,890 while women made approximately $39,288 per year. The occupational breakdown of the working citizens of the neighborhood was the following:

• 31.7% manufacturing and laborer occupations
• 26.3% sales and service jobs
• 22.8% clerical, assistant, and tech support roles
• 19.3% executive, management, and professional positions
