West Belmar

The unincorporated community of West Belmar is a census-designated place, or CDP, and is located in Wall Township in the eastern section of Monmouth County, New Jersey. Some other communities that help make up the township include Allenwood, Algers Mills, Lake Como, and Osbornes Mills. The community falls within the ZIP code 07719 and has an elevation of 30 feet. 

History

In 1609, Henry Hudson and his crew from the Dutch vessel Half Moon arrived in the greater area. However, Richard and Penelope Stout were with the first European settlers and majority landowners in the area. More Quaker families began to settle into the area after a land grant from Richard Nicolls was issued in 1665.  They were followed by Scottish settlers in 1682 and then by Dutch colonists. The new settlers were welcomed by the Lenape Native Americans that initially inhabited the region. The natives lived in small camps throughout the area and developed relationships with the new settlers.

Neighborhood

The community is home to Matt's Farm Market & Garden Center. The market offers a wide variety of plants along with fresh produce.

A park located in the southeastern section of town named Harry Rash Field offers the community the following amenities:

• ample parking 
• a playground

Places of Worship

The community has several options of places for the resident to attend religious services, including:

• Living Water Ministries - located on Central Avenue
• West Belmar United Methodist - located on 17th Avenue
• Calvary Baptist Church - located on 13the Avenue

Education

Residents can send their children to schools within the Wall Township Public School District. These include the following:

• West Belmar Elementary School - located on 17th Avenue 
• Wall Intermediate School - located on Allaire Road
• Wall High School - located on 18th Avenue

Some nearby private and charter school options include:

• Academy Charter High School - located on Main Street
• Monmouth Montessori Academy - located on Railroad Avenue

Demographics

In 2010 the CDP had  2,493 residents within the 984 households and 646 families. This was a decrease of 4.3% from 2000 to 2010. The community included the following ethnicities: 

• 91.01% white
• 10.71% Hispanic or Latino
• 0.60% African American
• 0.60% Native American
• 0.00% Pacific Islander
• 1.56% Asian
• 1.12% two or more races
• 5.09% other races

The community is primarily wealthy, making it among the 15% highest income neighborhoods in the country. The median income was $56,367 per household in 2000. A family income averaged $60,144. Many of the professions within the working residents include:

• 50.5% executive, management, and professional occupations
• 27.1% sales and service jobs
• 13.0% manufacturing and laborer roles
• 9.5% clerical, assistant, and tech support positions
