Woodland Park

The borough is located in the northern region of Passaic County, New Jersey. The community spans 1971.2 acres and consists of 89.6 acres of water, such as the Passaic River and the Barbour Pond. The town of Paterson is to the north, and Great Notch is to the south of the neighborhood. The Passaic River forms the western border as U. S. Route 46 creates the southern border.

The town was originally named West Paterson, but in November of 2008, the residents voted to rename it to Woodland Park. The name was based on the areas many wooded areas and reserved its W. P. initials. The decision was based on the area's desire to disassociate itself from the larger town of Paterson, which has a higher crime rate, among other reasons. The proposal won yet was petitioned by some residents to revert back to the original name in 2009; however, the vote in favor of keeping the new name was 2,248 to 2,216.

Located within the borough is the Morris Canal National Registered Landmark, added to the registry in 1973. The Morris Canal stretched across 107 miles and was a common carrier of coal from 1829 to 1924. The idea for the innovative idea came from George P. MacCulloch, a Morristown businessman, in 1822. The canal use was terminated due to the growth of truck transport and the rise of oil fuels.
